If you’re an AI newbie, no problem! Here’s a quick step-by-step guide to getting started with ChatGPT. Here’s what you need to do first:
Visit chatgpt.com and create an account. You don’t have to, but you definitely should if you want ChatGPT to remember your conversations. You can use the free version.
Start a new chat for each prompt by clicking the “New Chat” button in the upper left corner of your browser.
Copy and paste the fabulous preview prompt below, replacing the [bracketed text] with your information.
Always review and customize ChatGPT’s suggestions before adding them to your resume.
Detailed instructions are provided for each prompt.
Prompt #1: Quantify Achievements 📊
What it does: helps you add specific numbers and metrics to your accomplishments.
Instructions:
Choose one bullet point from your resume that lacks specific numbers. Then, copy this prompt:
“I want to add measurable results to this job accomplishment: [insert your bullet point/accomplishment from your resume]. Help me identify specific metrics, percentages, or numbers that would make this achievement more impactful. Please ask whatever questions you need for context or clarity to provide the best recommendation.”
Replace [insert your bullet point/accomplishment] with the bullet point on your resume.
When/if ChatGPT asks questions, provide additional context about:
Team size
Timelines
Budget
Metrics or baselines
Awards/recognition
Impact/result: time saved, money made or saved, quality improved, efficiencies gained, etc.
Example:
Original: "Responsible for customer satisfaction scores"
Better: "Led a 12-person team to increase customer satisfaction scores from 82% to 94% over 6 months, resulting in 23% higher customer retention"
Repeat with other bullets on your resume where you need to QUANTIFY ACHIEVEMENT.
Always review and customize AI responses before adding them to your resume.
💡ProTip: Include the "how" behind the revised accomplishment to add depth. Ask ChatGPT to review your improved bullet point for additional suggestions/recommendations.
OK, that’s just the FIRST prompt.
